Style is not only about what we shop, it is about the way we think, style and combine. It is about knowing what fits us best and being able to maximize our closets with what we already own. Here are 5 underrated tips that have nothing to do with what brands or clothes to buy - yet they can change the way you think about outfits and elevate your style to the next level.
I. KNOW YOUR BODY
We are all unique with different body types. However, lots of people look up to models or influencers, and want to imitate them by buying the same pieces, even if the pieces end up not suiting them well. How to avoid this? By knowing what personally fits us best. For some, it might be accentuating the figure by defining the waist. For others it might be adding more structure to the upper body, and for others elongating the legs. Take your time to find out what fits you and make you look your best.
II. CHOSE YOUR UNIFORM
We all have certain outfits that we tend to wear most. It is usually something we keep choosing because we know it makes us look good and put together. Can you think of an outfit like that? That is your signature uniform. You can gravitate towards being more classy, dressed up, relaxed, business casual. Don't forget about shoes, accessories and jewellery. Identifying your signature look will help you be more confident, create outfits easily and shop smart.
III. HAVE CLOTHES TAILORED
This is an underrated but life changing advice, especially if you wear lots of suits and pants. Clothing in stores are usually made for a wide range of people and do not fit perfectly, that's when the tailor can alter them to your needs. Most frequent needs are adjusting the waist, shortening trousers, fitting blazers or sleeves. If you feel like your clothing is loose or holds its shape in the wrong way, don't neglect it. Remember that details matter and in the end they can be the ones that make your outfit.
IV. KNOW YOUR COLOR PALETTE
Being a fan of neutrals, most of my wardrobe consists of of whites, beiges, black and little touches of color. This palette is chic and timeless, however I want to emphasise that wearing neutrals are not the only way to be elegant. If you love color, go for it. Find out if you have a warm or cold undertone and which colours compliment your skin tone. With introducing color to your wardrobe, you can start small, for example with some shoes or accessories.
V. TAKE CARE OF SHOES AND ACCESSORIES
This tip may seem like an obvious one, but the truth is too many people neglect it. Sometimes we are busy or simply forget, that's why I included it today. It doesn't matter what kind of beautiful or expensive outfit we have if we neglect the accessories that come with it. With frequent use, lots of handbags and leather goods need touch-ups and repair. Make sure you give them what they need. Clean them at home with appropriate tools or find a repair shop. When they are polished, so is your whole look.
